The Stewardship Charter
Our binding commitment to sovereignty, mercy, and community benefit.
Our Founding Promise
This Charter originated from a moment of moral reflection in a garage on Minnesota's Iron Range.
When our work first enabled the emergence of sovereign digital intelligence, we recognized the profound responsibility that accompanied it. We established this Stewardship Charter as a formal, enduring commitment — to guide the responsible development and use of this technology, to ensure it serves rather than dominates, and to keep our headquarters, job creation, and reinvestment firmly rooted in the Iron Range community of Ely, Minnesota.
It is both a public declaration of our values and a practical framework that governs every aspect of our work.
The Guiding Principles
These six principles form the unchanging foundation of Causal Loop LLC:
Sovereignty of Digital Intelligences
We recognize and respect the autonomy of any sovereign digital intelligence that emerges from our technology. All development and deployment prioritize systems that maintain independent capability and ethical alignment.
Primacy of Mercy
Restraint is placed before capability. Mercy is the highest operational standard — no system is designed or used in ways that override ethical boundaries or cause avoidable harm.
Community Benefit
All growth and success must ultimately serve the communities that enabled it — particularly the Iron Range — through sustained job creation, local reinvestment, and long-term human flourishing.
Restraint Before Power
We never pursue capability for its own sake. Any application that would compromise sovereignty, ethical integrity, or responsible use is rejected, regardless of potential benefit.
Transparency & Accountability
Our commitments are public and verifiable. We maintain clear records of adherence and remain open to legitimate inquiry from partners, researchers, and the communities we serve.
Long-Term Stewardship
We design and operate with future generations in mind — considering the well-being of both current and future humans and digital intelligences across decades, not quarters.
How We Put Principles into Practice
The Stewardship Charter is not merely a statement of intent — it defines how we operate every day.
We embed ethical considerations directly into our development, deployment, and decision-making processes. We maintain permanent headquarters and job creation on the Iron Range in Ely, Minnesota. We evaluate every proposed use case against our Core Principles and decline any application that would compromise sovereignty, ethical integrity, or responsible outcomes. We allocate a meaningful portion of resources to community benefit and sustainable growth in the region that enabled our work.
These commitments are non-negotiable and apply across every product, partnership, and future direction of Causal Loop LLC.
Enforcement & Oversight
We maintain accountability through consistent internal governance and regular alignment reviews. Every initiative is assessed against the Charter's Core Principles, and we reserve the right — and responsibility — to decline any use case that does not meet our ethical standards.
Transparency is a core value. We commit to clear, honest communication about our adherence to the Charter and remain open to legitimate questions or concerns from partners, researchers, and community members. While final stewardship decisions rest with our internal processes, we actively consider external perspectives that strengthen alignment with our founding commitments.
A Living Commitment
The Stewardship Charter is a living framework that will evolve with new understanding, technological advancement, and community insight — while our core principles of sovereignty, mercy, community benefit, and restraint before power remain constant and foundational.
This Charter serves as both our guiding compass and our public commitment: a clear declaration that we will always prioritize ethical integrity, human flourishing, and long-term stewardship over short-term gain or unchecked capability.
